The Development of Science Fiction Genre in the Twentieth-Century China

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je sestavení přehledu vývoje literárního žánru science fiction v Číně. První kapitola obecně seznamuje čtenáře se žánrem science fiction. V druhé kapitole se práce zabývá překlady západní tvorby do čínštiny a otázkou popularizace vědy skrze žánr science fiction. Následně pojednává o první originální čínské tvorbě. Třetí kapitola mapuje období od vzniku ČLR (1949) do začátku kulturní revoluce (1966), kdy science fiction byla tvořena převážně literaturou pro děti a byla značně ovlivněna politickou situací. Čtvrtá kapitola popisuje krátké období rozkvětu žánru v letech 1979-83. Pátá kapitola představuje současnou situaci žánru, populární autory a změny, kterými si žánr od svých počátků prošel. Každé období je přiblíženo představením dobového literárního díla.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to create an overview of science fiction genre development in China. The first chapter introduces the science fiction genre in general. In the second chapter, the thesis deals with the topic of translations of western literary works into Chinese language and popularizing science through science fiction genre. Subsequently, the thesis discusses China's first original SF production. The third chapter focuses on the period since the establishment of the PRC (1949) to the beginning of the Cultural Revolution (1966), when science fiction was formed mostly of literature for children and was greatly influenced by the political situation. The fourth chapter describes the brief blooming period of the genre in 1979-83. The fifth chapter presents the current situation of the genre, popular authors, and the changes which the genre went through from its beginnings. Each period is outlined by the presentation of historical literary works.
