Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se věnuje monstrům a jejich povaze ve vybraných filmech scenáristy a režiséra Terryho Gilliama. Fantasijní světy, které ve svých filmech Gilliam tvoří, vždy zrcadlí realitu. Rostou z nevědomí hlavních hrdinů a ti se do svých imaginací buď utíkají před monstry schovat, nebo jim v nich čelit. Cílem této práce je nalezení monster ve filmech Brazil, Dobrodružství Barona Prášila, Král Rybář a Krajina přílivu a určení jejich povahy. Filmy byly vybrány na základě režisérova přístupu k vytváření fantasijních světů. Každý film používá jiný přístup a i povaha monster se tak liší. Zaměřila jsem se především na vztah monstra k hlavnímu hrdinovi.Podstatným při hledání a určování povahy monster pro mě byl výklad Daniely Hodrové, podle které se monstrem dají nazvat všechny fantastické bytosti. Při hledání původu monster je navíc použito přístupu analytické psychologie Carla Gustava Junga a to především kvůli jejich původu v nevědomí a mnohdy archetypové povaze. Tímto způsobem se mi podařilo ve výše zmíněných filmech nalézt monstra, jejichž monstrozita se netýká jen jejich vnějších znaků, ale má hlubší původ. Zjistila jsem, že povaha opravdových monster v těchto filmech je mnohdy skrytá a na diváka působí pouze podprahově.Hlavním zjištěním je, že pro výstavbu a funkci celého příběhu je nutný výlučný vztah mezi hlavním hrdinou a monstrem, kdy na sobě jejich existence bytostně závisí a vzájemně se ovlivňují. A dále původ fantasijního světa jako takového, kam hrdina před monstry buď utíká, nebo kam naopak musí dojít, aby jim čelil.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis is focusing on monsters and their nature in selected films of screenwriter and director Terry Gilliam. The fantasy worlds in his movies always reflect the reality. They grow from the unconscious of the main characters, who either tend to hide in them or they enter these worlds to confront the monsters. The goal of this thesis is to find monsters in movies Brazil, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, The Fisher King and Tideland and to determine their nature. These movies were chosen based on the director's approach to creating fantasy worlds. Each film uses a different approach and therefore the nature of the monsters is also different. I focused mainly on the relationship of the monster to the main character. Essential in finding and determining the nature of the monsters for me was the interpretation of Daniela Hodrová. According to her, all fantastic creatures can be called monsters. In addition, Carl Gustav Jung's analytical psychology approach is used in the search for the origin of the monsters, mainly because of their unconscious and often archetype nature.This way, I managed to find monsters in the above mentioned films whose monstrosity is not only related to their external characteristics, but has a deeper origin. I have found that the nature of true monsters in these films is often hidden and affects the viewer only subliminally.The main finding is that an exclusive relationship between the main character and the monster is necessary for the construction and function of the whole story, in which they could interact with each other and in which their existence depends on each other. As well as finding of the fantasy world as a place, where the hero either goes to hide from monsters or where he has to go to face them.
